NANCY HAYNES

For years the paintings of Nancy Haynes have contemplated the infinite languages of gradation. Her repetitious explorations in black bare more complex variants from one another upon closer inspection, showing subtle diversities in the darkness. Poetry is as much the third pigment of her practices not only in terms of direct citation but as the metaphoric vehicle for transmitting ideas and experiences. As Haynes’ has spoken about “disappearing into the painting” the loss of the viewer into these linens could reveal something if given sufficient contemplation much like the notion of the Black Mirror in popular culture.
